This Kenya tastes like mid-sixties John Coltrane ripping a solo on your tongue. The flavor comes in vibrant waves that vacillate from bright berry blasts to sugary sweet melodies throughout. This big-bodied Kenya tastes so dang good it’s sure to take your mouth to Stellar Regions.

Region: Nyeri
Elevation: 1800 – 1900 MASL
Process: washed
Variety: SL-28, SL-34, Ruiru 11, Batian
Harvest: 2017/2018

ROASTER’S NOTES:
This coffee from Nyeri is a stellar example of a Kenya. Big explosive berry notes give way to loads of sweet clover honey and rich caramel that engulfs every corner of your palate. This is not a subtle coffee. It will pry its way into your mouth like a thief in the night and it boasts a bigger body than King Kong Bundy. You’ll be happy to slam it into your mouth like Hogan did Bundy at WrestleMania II.

BREW RECOMMENDATIONS:
This coffee is jam-packed with explosive flavors, so let’s shoot for a little balance and sweetness with the Kalita. Toss 25 grams of coffee into the filter and pour 385 grams of water over the top. Shoot for a brew time of around 3.5 minutes. Get ready for big bold flavors that slap your tongue in the face and give your uvula a shoulder massage.

IMPORTER’S NOTES:
Kenyan coffees, for a lot of roasters, are showcase coffees, those that stand out above all others for brash acidity, ripe fruit, and rich sugars. We can all remember that first experience with a Kenyan coffee, how it floored us with gripping acid. For a long time, however, we’ve tended to paint all of Kenya with the same brushstroke, without digging in to see what each county could have to offer us as for diversity of flavor or profile. With our regional program Uteuzi Jimbo, Swahili for "county select," we aim to do just this. Collaborating with our export partner Dormans, we’ve selected three counties to begin an exposé of what each region can offer if we take the time to look: Nyeri, Embu, and Kirinyaga. The coffees from Nyeri are often considered the “Kenyan yard stick,” and we’ve found the best of them to show higher fructose sugars, brighter forward acids, and light, juicy bodies.
